Plastic-Free Pasta Pledge (Australia)
Aussies consume over 70M+ kilograms of dried pasta per year.
Pasta is typically sold in 500g bags, meaning somewhere around 140M+ single use plastic bags of pasta are purchased each year in Australia.
That's a staggering amount of plastic waste.

Dried pasta doesn’t need to be sold in plastic bags.
Barilla has already proven this by transitioning its pasta from plastic packaging to paper (hats off to Barilla for leading the charge).
Now imagine if every Aussie pasta brand followed Barilla’s lead.
We could remove more than 100 million completely unnecessary plastic bags from supermarket shelves every single year.
The Plastic-Free Pasta Pledge
Here’s the simple but powerful idea:
We’re inviting all major pasta brands in Australia - San Remo, Pastificio, Zafarelli, Vetta, Macro, Woolworths, and Coles - to sign the Plastic-Free Pasta Pledge and commit to eliminating single-use plastic from their packaging.
A simple packaging shift, replicated across the industry, would create massive national impact.
A Shame-Free Invitation
How we go about this is everything. This campaign isn’t about shame or blame.
For too long, environmental advocacy has focused on attacking companies. It hasn’t worked. And it isn’t inspiring.
We’re taking a different approach - a warm, constructive, and open-hearted invitation for Aussie pasta brands to join us in #UntrashingThePlanet.
Because solving this global problem will take everyone, everywhere doing their little bit.
The Truth About Pasta Companies
Pasta companies make pasta.
They’ve spent decades - in some cases generations - perfecting the craft of pasta production and supermarket distribution.
They’re not sustainability experts.
And we’re not here to blame them for using plastic packaging. That’s simply how the industry has always operated.
But there’s a better way forward - and we’re here to inspire, support, and champion that transition.
How You Can Get Involved
Launching in 2026, the first stage of this campaign is all about getting the attention of pasta companies.
That’s where you come in.
We’ll be releasing a suite of social media content designed to spread quickly and get noticed.
Sharing this content - and tagging pasta brands - will help build the momentum we need.
We’ll also provide simple “copy-and-paste emails” you can send to pasta brands and supermarkets to demonstrate public demand.
A full suite of campaign assets will be available here in 2026.
